When you're ready to get ready for some structured training to improve your climbing, pick up this book.
The discussion of the performance cycles is particularly insightful, and following the training paths of the three "characters" in the book illustrates some of the more technical points well.
Get together a posse of like-minded climbers and start improving your climbing! |

Don't bother with this book if you climb purely for fun.
This book proves more than anything tha climbing is a sport and can be treated with the degree of science that is normally associated with elite sports. This is about improving specific components of your climbing - power and endurance. It introduces specific physical concepts such as engrams (muscle memory) and improvement/overtraining curves.
German Wolfgang Gullich wrote a book on training for climbing (don't know the title) that this book largely based itself on.
If you want to get better at climbing, read and follow this book. It redefined training for climbing in the mid to late 90's. |
