I just finished Regions of the Heart, which is a biography of Alison Hargreaves, and am thoroughly depressed.
Here's this brilliant climber who had the potential to take women in climbing to a new level, but was sabotaged by an abusive husband who drove his own business into the ground with shoddy bookkeeping and then proceeded to "manage" her climbing career into bad PR and relative anonymity. Just as she tries to break out of her marriage and begins to have some public success (and possible financial stability) as a professional climber, she dies in a storm on K2.
This is not a good book to read when it's that time of the month. Pooh.
