This may sound a bit silly, but I think the best way to keep your hands warm is to wear a beanie and socks. Taping your hands will keep them a little warmer whilst climbing, and having a pair of gloves to belay with (make sure you can still break the rope effectively!) in your pocket is a good idea on multi-pitches, but generally your not going to be able to climb with gloves on. Best to try to keep the rest of the body warm, which will promote blood flow to the fingers.
I think the best you can do is make sure your really warmed up before you start the route, so the blood if flowing and circulation is pumping hard. This will keep everything warm for a while. Then wear a beanie on your head, thin socks on your feet, and a windproof top to keep your self warm.
Another improtant factor (on multi-pitches) is to have a partner who climbs as quickly (or faster) as you do, this will minimise the time you spend cooling down on belays. |
