Hi Brendan, One of the advantages of having two ropes is there is less chance that both ropes will be cut by falling rock. One the things that really spooked me was the crap weetbix like rock found on many of the grade 2-3 routes. It flakes off due to the freeze/thaw cycle and can be quite sharp!
