I would rather belay strait off the anchor (if you dont trust it you shouldn't be there). If there is some major F/U and a rescue is required escaping the system is quick and safe. Just read up on escaping the system in one of the self rescue books and you will understand. Also belaying strait from your harness (from above) makes your back very sore IMO. Climbing rope is well strong enough the only problem I see is if the stretch puts the belay device at an uncomfortable reach or the system is part static part dynamic. Steve
