So in the House of Rex we have extensive experience drinking Kool Aid, and breaking helmets. At least 10 glasses of Kool Aid, and a similar number of helmets. TeeRex Junior has four or five broken helmets on display next to his trophy cabinet, I just throw mine in the bin.

In all 10+ cases the EPS is cracked or shattered, and in no cases is it crushed flat. Even the ones which have taken really big hits, where the outer fibreglass or carbon fibre shell (talking full face bicycles helmets now...) is split, and the rider was stretchered from the track, the EPS is still pretty much full thickness. For sure it compresses a little, but not a lot, and it certainly doesn't get crushed flat in any accident you are able to talk about afterwards.

And I'm still not going to climb in a bike helmet, no matter how much Kool Aid I've had.
