Self preservation is the ultimate goal! As such from your point of view, keeping the gear is the optimum outcome. As long as the party seeking to retrieve the stuck cam, do not realize you took the cam and seek to retrieve it by threatening your well being. However giving the cam back may lead to rewards all of their own. Which may not be as rewarding as avoiding a death dive.

Simey, has the cam caught many falls?
