After chatting to everyone involved, both dave and ollie, and the guys was climbing with, I have no concerns anymore. Ollies fall wouldnt have been much fun, but certainly wasnt a factor 2, or anything similar to the certification tests the ropes had to pass. As for clipping individually, we always do when climbing with gear..... I guess the boys thought the bolts looked shiny enough to trust with a higher shock load.... perhaps not the wisest move, but it certainly gave the ropes an easier time.
As to the climb the other day..... we all seem to agree that the sound came from the ledgy/arete crossover region, and having looked at the part of the rope that would have been involved in that area, there isnt the slightest mark on it. Must have been a draw or biner catching on the rock.
As for lending out my ropes to ollie again, after the way he and dave have been (and continue too) forced to put up with my tears and screams of terror while seconding, top-roping, absailing or even looking at their climbs for the last year, I figure I owe them. |
