bloody cars I can't help myself. Would you believe that you are the second person I have come across in not long, currently without a car, living in Canberra to covet a Brumby ute. Wow.
As much as i think Brumbys were a good vehicle they are now old and expensive for parts, thirsty and because they are somewhat desirable and rare, too expensive in my opinion
I would look for something japanese, diesel, 2WD, manual and hot pink or at least four of the above. Think Nissan Navarra, Mitsubishi Triton, Mazda B series (or similar Ford with new Badges), Toyota Hilux (Can be a bit overpriced based on reputation and good advertising campaign, this is less likely in 2WD). These vehicle to my mind generally strike a good balance between economy, longeivity, reliabilty and reasonable availabilty and price of parts.
4WD sounds nice but they always more expensive both initially and later.
A turbo in a diesel is probably also not a bad idea depending on whether you require more acceleration than an elderly wet goat or not.
Hope this is of use and sorry if it all sounds a bit bombastic but it is late and I am going to bed now.
Old Ford Falcon and Holden Commodore utes can be good value too, but would be to low for me to consider them a good cragging vehicle.
I'm serious bed now. |
