Look, I should probably know better, but here's the story.
I've got a 5 year old, 57.5m 10.5mm (more like 11.5mm) Edelrid rope. It was my first rope and received some terrible top rope abuse, which has made it furry and thick as a dressing gown cord. However, I've never really got serious about sport clipping with it, preferring to take falls on half-ropes instead.
In any case, the rope's 5 years old and common wisdom says retire it. But is it really necessary? Would it be okay to inspect the sheath, feel the core and continue on as before? |
