Good to hear about woodies getting more prolific!! Just be cautious about inviting randomn people to 'come round to crank on your woodie'.
I used to be paranoid about treating timber that was left in the elements, but I don't bother with plywood anymore.
My woodie was always fine outdoors in Melbourne. Some mates in England have their untreated/uncovered woodie in the rain (300 days a year is my estimate). The problem is stopping yourself getting wet - the wall itself doesn't seem to be effected (I wonder how long it would take to rot/become brittle - any experience people?)
As far as being able to boulder in the rain, you need a tarp extending from (above) the woodie's lip by about 2m. Good call on the drainage issue, boffins.
I like the concept of poluting the wall then make up stuff. From there, it's great to tweak or detune holds. eg, you can latch that sloper quite easily, so rotate it until you struggle to use it. Keep trying.
The elimination game is well fun, and excelent training for your weak points - especially if you play against a wily fox (like Gerard Healey) |
