John, it may be worth hiring AT boots and gear for a try to familiarise yourself with the gear. In NSW try either Rhythm Sport at Cooma, or Wilderness Sports at Jindabyne. Possibly Paddy's at Jindy too. It will all make sense when you look at a pair of planks with AT bindings attached.

I'd try and get a pair of Silvrettas for your existing boots and then look to upgrade from there if it grabs you, it really will best suit what you are doing.

Or, these newsletters have AT gear for sale from NZ, or keep checking the Classifieds section of www.ski.com.au (there is one for sale there now).

I'd keep looking as many sections don't have the May edition up on the web yet. I have bought some stuff this way and it was a piece of piss to do, Kiwi's being a reasonable bunch, and htere are lots more of them in the mountains and out there using AT gear.
