Hi Neil
I have had lower back problems and pain for some years on and off also and I know how frustrating this can be, I was diagnosed with a bulging disk and so on, after doing lots of searching and seeing two specialists the second of whom sent me to a Mckenzie certified physiotherapist who was great and I have found Robin Mckenzies book "Treat your own back" really good also, I had bought this on the advice of another physio previously. Sorry if this sounds like advertising but I think it might help. The second thing the specialist said to me was that a conglomerate of exercises may not help, they must be specific, I now do them every day.
Finally, after doing something that aggravates your back take the time to reverse what caused the problem rather than jumping straight in the car and driving for hours for example and try using a lumber roll in the car and any other seat.
For some internet info on the spine check out spine universe or spine health (google it) there is loads of info as you can probably imagine but it helps to understand how it all works. I hope this helps
