I've done so much shoulder re-hab I'm virtually a physio. My physio was a genius, but he's not treating anymore.

The thing I was constantly told was first to work on my 'pain free movement'. This was assisted movement of the sore shoulder with the good one. Start with arms crossed, good hand supporting bad shoulder's elbow, with bad shoulder's hand resting on forearm. Use the good arm to rotate up the shoulder joint until it hurts. I would do this for 15 minutes or so, as often as I remembered it.

The next thing my physio stressed was getting strength back into the joint. He was a huge advocate for push ups. But slowly and with perfect form. Start against a wall, then on a bench, then lower. About 6 months after my reconstruction I was doing pushups with my feet about 50cm above my hands.

I don't recommend you try any of these because I am an engineer. This is just a nice story about my shoulder.
