A lit of bit of clarification of my "don't rest for too long" on the end...

It is important to take rest days after all training. I actually mean don't rest for too long after an injury! 3 months of total rest has never helped anybody, but lots of people got fat, unfit, and developed unsociable habits and smells! From what I understand, it is important to start appropriate strengthening of relevant areas within a few weeks of any injury, and within a few days of some.
Depending on the severity of your elbow problems, I would not think it is worth taking more than a week or two total rest.
Likewise, on return to activity, if the injury flares up, it is not appropriate to take another few weeks rest.... rest a couple of days, then return to the activity with reduced intensity.
Hope I don't sound like some paternalistic old-school doc!!
