Sounds like you run your car into the ground. Good for you. I had a Magna TR a few years back and did the same. $70 to have a new tyre fitted to a rim and balanced is fantastically cheap. Leaving those cheap tyres on for 80,000 km is asking for trouble.
I would say that if you are giving a person a one-off lift charge them what you want. If they are a mate don't charge them.
For a weekend's trip away the convenience is the same for the hitcher as it is for the owner so I think they should be charged proportionally.
Anyway I'm not making any friends arguing this point so I think it is fair to say that we can agree to disagree.
