Hamish and I are currently at Gorge du Tarn and it is absolutely amazing! The quality here is comparable to the Red - basically the first sport crag that has faired well on that measuring stick since I was in the Red in April.

Unfortunately, as has been stated, lots of the routes have been closed; maybe about 50%, though Hamish reckons more like 80%. We have been aiming for 7a to 7b as our destination routes and we have spent four pretty awesome climbing days so far and probably have another two or three climbing days of awesome climbing before we have to start revisiting already visited areas and cleaning up the lines we missed out on the first time. That said, we havent projected anything and dont plan to - we are onsight climbers.

The weather at the moment is pretty primo - though full sunshine is still too hot.

On a side note, we raided a local quince tree for some quinces (we didnt know what they were at the time) and they turned out to be surprisingly tasty if a little wierd - hints of pineapple with an aftertaste of mango!

On a further side note, we were discreetly free camped at a rest area next to some old abandoned stone houses built into the cliff. The camping was ok, as everywhere marginally out of sight was covered in toilet paper flowers and so a bit shitty. We stayed there four nights until one morning (whilst some local Frenchies had popped up a tent next to us) the police came and moved us on - they fined the Frenchies. We are not sure if they would have gotten us if the tented Frenchies hadnt had been there as our campa would have looked like it was just parked from afar.

Viva la Gorge du Tarn
