Yep, there is no option but a swim or a boat ride - it is such a deep pool at the bottom of the end of the gorge that there is not a lot of current and no rapids (unless it has rained a lot...)
We lucked out and met a private rafting group who paddled us over, but if you have plenty of big garbage bags it would be easy if chilly to swim it!
the walk over the Raglan range might be navigationally tricky in bad weather, but you get onto an old jeep track that goes somewhere near Bub Hill so there isn't any serious scrub
