>How hot is it in Summer?
We were there in November 1995 & it was stinking hot every day (mid to high 30's).
>How techincally hard is Flight Of The Pheonix? (can i self belay myself?!)
One of the best climbs at the grade I've done. First 2 pitches look easy from the ground but do involve some grunty crack climbing. Second pitch is probably the crux pitch of the climb. The rest of the climb I thought it was technically not hard, mostly around grade 15-16.
Gear was fantastic for most of the climb but I do remember the final pitch being an easy ramble out (maybe grade 10ish) but a bit sketchy on gear. Whilst rambling around looking for gear I dislodged a dinner plate sized block and nearly wiped out my belayer.
I think you could climb it self belay in one day but as an adventure climb there is always a chance of striking trouble such as rockfall or route finding. Maybe try one of the shorter easier ones first such as Vertigo. Also while I'm at it I see a note in our guide that we thought Cornerstone rib was closer to 250m not the 190m as listed. Pitch 4-5 are listed as 40m total & we though 60m, and pitches 6-8 listed as 60m & we thought 100m?
