Yep, the old dams cliff gate shenanigans. The gate was sometimes open, sometimes locked, open, locked, hacksawed, chained, re-hacksawed, re-chained, demolished in the middle of the night, re-built etc etc...
That's exactly what happened to us Neil. We'd been told that State Rail was leaving the gate open, but then it was locked when we tried to get out. Despite trying as many other options as we could think of at the time (apart from say using the car jack to crack the dams cliff gate open - which, as the temperature was dropping and we were getting hungry, tired and more and more motivated to get out, was in danger of looking like a sensible option) we approached Mike and told him what happened.
He was very understanding about it, and let us drive out through his place.
