There's plenty of circumstances they can't be backed up, hence the reason there is a carrot in that location (unprotectable by trad gear).
There are also plenty of climbs that are only protected by carrots, and one failure would result in a ground fall.
Perhaps someone can manufacture a thicker bolt plate that's stronger than 8kN?
There's definately a sense of nostalgia about the carrot/SGAB and a SGAB is probably a bit less noticable than a ring/fixed hanger/U. These seem to be the only arguments in favour of them - so with a better bracket perhaps they can be made to be safer.
Since they removed drive-in access to the County, I've never seen another person there. Unless bushwalkers enjoy walking around traintracks, I think the chance of them stumbling along there is remote, so the argument about U's, rings and hangers being too visible doesn't hold much water for Cosmic.
There's been a theme of paying attention to the wishes of the FA when it comes to rebolting a climb, any reason people might ignore their requests here?
