OK You buggers, I won't tell you what I actually think I took shoes and chalkbag with me, but I couldn't find any climbing action (around Dhahran). I did bump into a French guy (believe it or not, his name is Damian - with an "a"), who showed me photos of a large canyon that he and his girlfriend discovered near Dubai (UAE) where they have established a whole lot of trad routes. What was really good was that the girly's father lives above the Gorge du Verdon, and has establised scores of routes there over the last two decades. Apparently the house is a free place to stay....sweet.
