There is a very real danger that you become too focussed on climbing and nothing else, and your relevance to society (ie "not relevant") and what you have to offer it fades away. Old Damey is just trying to spill the Cauldron a little over, stir into the mix a new recipe, to spread around the goodness, and help steer you towards greatness. One of my schoolteachers said on my year 10 report that if I put half as much thought and effort into school as I did my climbing I would be a straight A student.
