Don't get a dog. They create more greenhouse gases than the average car. And while they provide company and social stimulation for people who at home alone for most of the day, this clearly does not apply to you and your girlfriend, who work full-time and whose recreation is all in national parks.
If your girlfriend is insistent, take a page from Chris Baxter's out-tray. For many years, he borrowed his elderly next door neighbour's dog Gumby. The neighbour fed the dog and paid its vet bills. Chris had a pet, a walking companion, and an unstinting admirer of all his editorials. |
