Yes Empress was closed. - Due to concerns regarding the stability of the access trail. Empress has been closed numerous times in the past due to rockfalls, construction works on the bridge, helicopter activity in the area, etc.

However, other canyons in the Park remained open, such as Serendipity. There are also Canyons outside the park.

The "main players" simply changed to another location (which was open, and safe).
