The best way to cut down on the amount of crap is to leave the pack at home.

Wear your gear on the walk in and if you're like me and don't like camelbaks/bladders, stuff your lunch into your pocket and tie your water bottle to your harness with a clove hitch and some <6mm cord.

Better yet, find an ultra fit climbing buddy like my mate Danno. He brings a 60L pack filled to the brim with 2 trad racks, several ropes, ice screws (during summer in QLD?!) and a heap of other crap i've never seen because we've never used it and i'd probably laugh at him. The pack is so big and heavy (more than half my body weight) he always volunteers to carry everything yet still runs around like it only weighs a kilo.
