I took a weird upside down fall off a sport climb (The Balrog in Nowra) - had the fall not been witnessed I don't think myself or my belayer could have figured out what why I flipped.

I was told that my foot hit a ledge a couple meters above where I ended up. I didn't believe it at first (as my foot was fine) until I realised that I was probably decelerating at that point. It would make sense as I remember cheese gratering down the slab (good sized abrasion to my knee,) then off the buldge into space, then feeling the rope start to grab and then oops - upside down. I put a good gash in the back of my helmet too (people wonder why I wear helmets on sport climbs...)

From your description of the fall is it possible your feet hit a ledge while you were loading the bad piece - before it pulled?
