I read his story awhile ago, and i would have to agree that he made alot of dangerous decisions without thinking through the consequences. Raft the Colorado at night with newbies and the avalanche incident are examples.

But in saying that he probably handled the situation reasonably well being stuck.

Pretty much everything I can do solo, I do, mainly becasue most of my friends aren't interested at being up at times that i am and the isolation is what i like. In saying that i don't take uncalculated risks because its generally a good period of time before you are actually missed and this is what will be your downfall.

If you push the boundries, even though you are merticulious in your planning luck does sometimes come into the frey.
His mistakes are all put out there for everyone to judge, selling his book would have been his publishers main priority and a bit of over dramitisation could have played a part.

I have sometimes changed my plans on the fly so i know how that could come into the situation sometimes things on the ground don't match with what you thought or wanted to do but in saying that it is a risk you take.

And after riding my bike to that point and taking that punishment head winds etc I prob would have wanted to finish it to.
