Yes he will be sadly missed. He was such a humble and person despite all his amazing exploits in mountaineering, exploring and humanitarian work.

I had the pleasure of meeting him twice. Once at the Mt Cook airport. I said hello to him, shook his hand and told him I was off to try and climb Mt Cook. He said good luck and be careful. A japanese climber who had just climbed Mt Cook pretty much wet himself and was almost down on his hands and knees kissing his shoes.

Second time was also in Mt Cook at a talk/ceremony to open the new Mueller Hut. After his talk he sat down and signed autographs and talked to people for a couple of hours all while everyone else was off drinking and eating the free food.

Hmm now where did I put those books I got him to sign.
