Do what ensures the economic viability of the enterprise - going out of business and martyrdom is not a useful end game. "Pushing an elephant up the stairs" (got some REM vibes going as I do this) is not that much fun no matter how warm and cuddly the beasts are. I likely would buy it no matter what format it was produced in - I mean where else can you absorb so much unexpurgated legendary beta on Amazonian (Queen'sland) climbing in one place. The Dead Sea Scolls pale in reflection! Size doesn't matter in the end - as long as survival in the publication gene pool is maintained.
Maybe we will be in a wired, electronic reading environment before long anyways - a nice little CRUX disk - lightweight, easy to stow in the with the CDs of Paul Kelly, Slim Dusty , Anne Kirkpatrick, the Waifs, The Seekers, and Rolf Harris and you would be set for a epic at Moonarie. PSP or mini-DVD formatted (Solar powered of course) -downloaded onto an IPOD . Disc can include color photos, bonus track interviews with the rich and famous of Blue Mtns. climbing, along with music scoring for particular sends, text read line and verse by the CRUX team - and they could be the lead for the blind clientele who can't deal with the paper version. Might be able to swing with the Qantas in-flight mag for insert rights. The mind is boggled by the possibilities.
In any case, just don't go for the magnum Rock & Ice sizing - it is a bit of a pain.
How about an interview with John Howard and what it is like to fall off a very big cliff in Canberra without a belay (seems like his belayer Finance Minister went AWOL) on that one! A new world upcoming down under. The Gang of Three is down to Two - maybe we can get it down to one with our next election this upcoming spring!
Cheers from topside and keep that little ripper jumping out of the newstands.
