>Exactly where and why did this harness snap?
It was the loop at the front of the harness, where the biner attaches. The harness looked a typical rental model and definitely not as good quality as my regular harness. I don't remember it showing any major signs of wear though. After that I stopped trusting the front loop and started putting the biner around the waist band but it is really too bulky to be practical.
I didn't at all like the attitude of the mob that ran the trip. A couple of idiots trying to prove how macho they were, exposing the group which included some very inexperienced people, to unnecessary risks. The trip out included climbing a dead, moss covered tree, 40cm in diameter, with no side branches, which was leaning at about 45 degrees onto a cliff about 10-15m high ... without any protection. One woman, who was climbing using the super slow slither technique, on her stomach with arms and legs wrapped around the tree, panicked and froze half way up ... lots of drama ... |
