I went for a walk around Montserrat on my first trip to Europe a few years ago. Not all that great...
Go to Riglos instead... it is really Great!
Riglos is less touristy, but a bit further from Barcelona. It's a really nice little spanish town with very easy walk-ins (which I know you love, Mike), and a nice little climbers pub. Plus the mega classic Fiesta Los Biceps, which is too cool for school fur shure! (6 huge pitches of overhanging bucket hauling, at grade 22-23 all the way).
Winter is definitely the go for Riglos, and I would think Montserrat, too, like all of the spanish crags except Rodellar. On the way home you can pop into the Terradets for some nice soft pumpers, then into Siurana for some spanish omellete from Toni Arbone's mum in the campsite (don't miss it, even better is having a chat with Toni Arbonne's dad, who speaks 8 different languages, all badly).
I forgot... Riglos is all conglomerate towers too... it's like climbing a big potato and pumpkin field, only a degree or two different from those carrot patches you love so much in the mtns mike. |
