As Keiran correctly pointed out, caffeine is a diuretic - causing increase in urine and therefore fluid loss from the body. Caffeine has been shown in research to improve performance though this does depend on the type and intensity!
Thirst is a trigger to get you to drink as your body needs fluids - therefore by this stage, you're already dehydrated although the extent varies.
I also agree that staying out of the midday heat is a good and sensible practice. |
