I think the main difference between the Arapiles golden wattle and the common one across Victoria is that the Arapiles one flowers in early winter while the other one comes out in spring.
Also, I the rare mintbush is the spiny mintbush (P. spinosa) not the roundleaf one that flowers in all the gullies. I've seen the spiny one in some of the drainage lines below Death Row pinnacle and various other places around the Mount - best to look in spring when it is flowering.
