Bolting up Arapiles is SOOOOO not the answer! Taking the difficulty and adventure out of it is clearly NOT the answer.
First Aid kits, now thats a thought, good call.
better guiding courses, and or some more leading courses... also a thought.
As climbing gets more and more popular, i think it would be a good idea for the climbing community to Demand High Standards. When teaching, only teach the best, and spend time teaching how Not to do things, so ppl can recognise when things look terribly wrong...
I think that keeping the standard high is the way to go.
Getting sloppy is the reason for alot of the people having accidents. the guide that mis-clipped into his belay device and fell off of alis' rap...thats just messy. thats the sort of thing that needs to stop.
Obviously there will be accidents, as rock climbing, is dangerous, its adventure, and its Awesome, so lets keep it as death-free as posible.
As for speaking to people from the Arapiles rescue, well, i am best friends with Tim Lockwood, and have had Many discussions with Norm, and Noddy on the subject of accidents. If anyone reading is also part of the Mountain Rescue, i would also love to hear from you on this subject!
Thanks for the discussion, keep it coming!
