Talcum powder might help to dry your hands out, but it's going to do bugger all for the friction - it's generally used to reduce friction. As for the metho, well... it might do okay, as long as you don't mind all the skin on your hands cracking and peeling off after a few climbs... the carrier for most quick-drying liquid gels is actually iso-propyl alcohol - not sure of all the reasons, but I suspect it's because it doesn't penetrate the skin as well and so doesn't cause as much de-fatting. |
