I managed to make a new friend last Sunday....
We were Climbing at the North Jawbones, and to my surprise, there were a few other independant groups climbing there aswell.
Whilst we were just starting up our 2nd route for the day, a guy rocks up with a full expedition pack, with crampons and axes attatched to the sides. I vaugley recognise the chap, and instantly bells ring in my head, this is the guy that I, and several others I know, have seen dry tooling at climbing crags.
After asking a couple of friendly questions, I assertain that, yes, this is the same guy, and yes he is planning on dry tooling.
Now this really pissed me off, Firstly, because he thought that there was nothing wrong with what he was doing, and then he accussed me of having bad ethics, because I told him he better not attempt to dry tool anywhere near me, and what he was doing was destroying the crag.
Now, I have done a bit of alpine climbing around this planet, and I certainly have not had to resort in "training" dry tooling at a climbing crag, especially a soft sandstone one!
Anyway... Opinions....? |
