It's all in the timing. If you do it right (ie jump as the rope is being weighted), you reduce the forces, but if you reach the top of your jump just before the rope is weighted, then all you have done is increase the length of the fall without increasing the amount of rope out (just like if you were belaying from a little higher up, except now you're both falling). |
