I agree with what you’re saying about keeping it real Anthony. At the same time I can see why some top-end climbers would have to – or want to - take the technicalities more seriously. Anyway, however the hairs are split, onsighting is great style, and I reckon it’s be a good thing if there was more emphasis on it around here in our red-point fixated country (not that I can talk – but I do value it more).
Great post Manacubus – relevant, interesting, informative, concise and funny at al the same time. Wow.
I had wondered if the outing of “pinkpoint” from sport climbing terminology might be a contributing factor to how the draws-insitu-onsight thing has come about. One of many factors of course. Hope that means we can eliminate that term (from sport-climbing terminology) once and for all…

The poll has not much value to me because it doesn’t allow for the fact some climbers see sport and trad differently. Also I don’t know if people are voting for their “ideal in an ideal world” or simply what they understand the term to mean.

Yes climbing is meant to be fun. And I like climbing discussions which are interesting/informative and/or genuinely funny. So I’m sure you understand then why I might not enjoy seeing something that is really just a question of terminology, or at most a minor issue of style, turned into one about “ethics” and “morals”. BTW, theft is an issue of morals. Anyway, enough said already. |
