Oh yeah, I think Neil takes the prize - There's a huge difference between scaning and manipulating a slide and using a digi camera in the first place.
Depsite stuff looking good on the web, there's still a huge quality difference. Your computer (and eyes) can handle greater res than the digital camera.

I'm dissapointed by modern cameras and don't want to give up my oldschool manual - doesn't really need batteries (great for cold), can leave behind the obsolete flash....
I think unless you use a compact or supermarket throwaway, photography itself isn't great for climbing. To take good shots of anything, you have to be somewhat removed from the action at hand (unless you get the odd luckyshot)
