I cant imagine a city being better served for rock climbing than Launceston in northern Tasmania. There are probably 3000 routes within an hours drive, and with 2000 of those being within 30 minutes!
Hobart has a lot of great climbing close to town (Mt Wellington is 15 minutes away), and the east coast of Tassie has no shortage of great surfing (apparently, not my scene so I dont know).
There is a shortage of engineers in Hobart, however the economy isnt huge, so although companies struggle to fill vacancies, there arnt that many vacancies to fill! Every second engineer / medical proffesional etc in town seems to be from either interstate of overseas.
And if you dont want to sit in traffic, then Hobart is pretty sweet. I ive 45 km out of the very centre of the town, and it takes me 30 minutes to drive to work. In Melbourne it took me 30 minutes to drive 7.5 km to work.
Weather wise summer is great, however the winters get a bit cold. You can certainly climb all year round though (just not on Mt Wellington in winter). |
