I don't entirely like the idea of a new forum, I don't think we need it and in some ways it might be a mistake to separate the serious stuff from the fun stuff so distinctly.
I think Hex's solution - self regulating to the one thread - has worked well, for example. Other than that, I'm not sure if an attempt to so clearly separate the two would be successful anyway – as I get the feeling that some might have a philosophical issue with super serious climbing discussions on the internet, and so there are always going to be some injecting a bit of humour. I’ve certainly got not problem with that.
The biggest problem I see is personal insults from those gutlessly hiding under aliases to do so. Not sure what you can do about that (as has been discussed before) except to say that I think many here know who at least some of these folk are, and personally, some of them might, in time, prove themselves to hypocritical and/or a lot less smart than they might like to think they are. It’s tricky though; one persons insult can easily be another’s humour. It’s Mike’s site so his guidelines should rule though.
I didn’t see Damo’s comments the other morning so can’t comment on that. Biting the hand that feeds ya’s a bit silly though eh? I’ve really enjoyed much of his humour though, so hope he’s spending his time constructively (another short story or two please Damo?). Looking forward to it. |
