John Smoothy (Crunch) has died at 56. Crunch passed away in hospital on Tuesday morning. He was with his wife Gemma and a small group of family and friends. After a very long and tough struggle he died comfortably and peacefully surrounded by people who loved him. John Smoothy was a true legend of Blue Mts climbing and if you have climbed in the mts then you have climbed at crags he opened and on classics that he put up. If you ever met him you probably counted him as a friend. He seemed to know everyone. He was the best climber I've ever known and he was my best mate. A lot of people will miss you, Crunch. G.
