I don't know if it's getting much worse in the time I've been using the forum but yes I have found in general it's not THAT useful or AS useful as it purports to be. That being said, I do think it is a bit more negative and sarcastic than most I've seen. You just need a thick skin and need to know it's more about the poster than anything else. I don't mind people being grumpy, that's life.
Admittedly I was out of the country a lot and did spend a lot of my earlier posting just trying to get rid of/sell some of my old gear, which didn't seem to help with some of the users here. Some of the other folk just take it a bit too much to heart.

But if you persevere you can find some useful gems in there. Sometimes I wish people would stick a bit more to the topic but hey that's life too.

In conclusion and with all respects to the moderators, I don't think there's much you can do or should do to regulate this. It's more a reflection of some of the climbers and the community that they now make up now. Use it for what it is and buyer beware. If you don't like it, go elsewhere.
