We have mods already. They jsut don't toot their horns much.

Watch it AJF. Innuendo like toot and horn is not acceptable on a family friendly forum. One more comment like that and I'll ban you for a week. You have been warned.

I had a quick look through urban dictionary and didn't discover anything too bad... I'm interested what toot your horn means to you, could you PM me your definition?

Is that your best reason for upgrading?
Something that worries me (ex-developer) is that in a bespoke system like this, if the wrong person gets hit by a bus, we're all pretty screwed - but it doesn't worry me enough to do anything about it.

yeah that's a fair reason...
i'd like to have a reply to thread option so that you can see the whole thread below your reply box, instead of only replying to a single post.
being able to upload pics straight from desktop, instead of having to load to server and link.
a different lay out and navigation.
sub forums
i do agree that most functions work well, but just thought it could be better.
for me it's all the small things that add up.
but as people have said, it sounds like a lot of work for perhaps less benefit to effort ratio.

Linked from the posts count in your profile (click on your username in a thread): http://www.chockstone.org/Forum/Forum.asp?Action=Go&Within=Author&Search=costa
To be honest, occasionally I would like the ability to search a particular user's posts. I remember digging through all of simey's posts looking for the watchtower crack piton thing to discover it was in fact his first post to this forum... That took a little longer than it needed to.

Third link when in google - watchtower piton site:chockstone.org

Perhaps for the less technically minded it would be helpful to replace the existing forum search with a google custom search engine:
http://www.google.com/cse/
or supplement it with a form that redirects to google (e.g. http://www.askdavetaylor.com/how_can_i_add_a_google_search_box_to_my_web_site.html )

If you go to the search button on the left, the first box is a google search restricted to chockstone.org.

The search at the bottom of the forum is more helpful if you're looking for a thread you know the name of though.

Ain't broke, don't fix it... vbulletin/phpbb are both POS.
Only thing i'd like to see would be some RSS/XML/JSON feeds so i don't have to resort to lame screen scraping techniques that could possibly break in the future.

This was my main point - it's difficult to find something general, just loads of single line posts etc.

VCC??? Nothing to do with the VCC...
Well, there's obviously something related to the VCC:
"Upcoming VCC Events"

Then use the search on the search page.

That's quite a recent addition. I wrote the code for it a few months back after adding an RSS feed to the VCC website.

An RSS feed for forum updates would be great.

Yeah, I think so too. In fact, there's a thread about it. When I've got some time free I might ask Mike to send me the DB schema and the code for the new posts thing and see what I can do.
[Edit, actually there's three, one from me, one by pmonks and one by glacier-rat]

Ahh, the search link. Of course. I should remember to check the obvious things before I post. I think I'd previously tried the search on the forum page, discovered it wasn't too helpful and went straight to google. Perhaps it could be added as an option to the forum search box as well?

Making a form that submits to two different places is a pain.
