Thanks for all the feed back!
What do you think of a climbing sandal, enclosing the toe area, yet with maximum breathability?
Hangdoggy,
in your opinion which niche market is the least developed in climbing shoes? Beginners? Experienced climbers?

How about a sandle or mesh shoe with a slingshot that can be adjusted for tension with a velcro strap.

What about a brush on rubber builderupperer. Like when you weld extra metal on the teeth on earth moving equipment to save replacing them so often. Just touch up the wear at the end of the day and not have to resole. Could also allow for a very thin high performance shoe that just needs touching up more often. Imagine being able to wrap your toes around a hold.

Tell me about your shoes.........
How many pairs have you owned?
How long do they last?
Is comfort an issue?
Do you buy for cost or practicality?
What does it feel like borrowing shoes if you forget your own?

Already exists. See LaSportiva Mantra.

20+ pairs - never kept count?
>How long do they last?
Depends on frequency - 6 month long road trips vs a couple of times a week training wear naturally differs. Plus because I always buy my shoes at *foot binding tight - need to insert with plastic bags* tight, they then resole okay as they are still tight once stretched.
>Is comfort an issue?
See point above.
>Do you buy for cost or practicality?
Buy for performance with shoe that fits my foot shape best. Hence why five of the last 6 pairs are all 5.10 Moccasyms, the 6th 5.10 Anasazi Velcro.
>What does it feel like borrowing shoes if you forget your own?
As long as they are sized extremely tight, then it's managable. Size is far more important than fit.

Fave shoes:

Scarpa Dominators because they fit my wide dogs, were available as either lace up or slippers, can be used for anything and are remarkably durable (BD gear is the best anyway). I can't think of a shoe that fits my needs better than the Dominator...they need to bring back the velcro one though coz my old pair are wearing thin again...

Helmets:

I currently use a Grivel Cap. My ideal helmet would be a design like The Cap or Petzl Meteor but with a hard shell and intergral headlamp clips. The Elios doesn't fit me properly btw...

Pros: Light, Easily adjusted even with gloves on, perfect fit, very warm - great winter helmet.

Cons: No integral headlamp clips and the fact that the light shell/foam design is not super durable.

Ever had foot injuries directly relating to your shoes design?

I buy for comfort and lastability,

but my next pair will probably be bought purely for performance
Plastic tends to trash my shoes quicker.

I got planter warts from my shoes, Painfull!

I think they gave me an ingrown toe-nail,

Also if i wear my shoes on the rock on an ulra hot day my feet peel a whole layer of skin for weeks later!

You know wat would be good! A small scrub brush or patch top of the shoes on the laces or velcro, Nearly every time i start on a climb i gota pause and wipe my soles on my leg or other shoe!

All up, three pairs.

>How long do they last?
First pair (OneSport rOxygens) lasted, no joke, about two trips to Booroomba. Second pair, lace-up Anasazis that I got second-hand lasted for a good two years, including use for deep-water soloing, and are still good for bashing up easy routes in the gym if I feel the need. Third pair, LaSportiva Mistrals (my favourite shoe yet) which are still going strong after two years of inconsistent use, in and outdoors.

>Is comfort an issue?
Yes. But not nearly as much as performance.

>Do you buy for cost or practicality?
Practicality.

>What does it feel like borrowing shoes if you forget your own?
Shit. I hate wearing other peoples shoes, I can't work with it. Hence, I never forget my own.
