I remember watching John Bachar playing on Midnight Lightning in May 1978. I vaguely recall thinking it had been climbed at the time(***), but now I'm not sure whether or not he was still trying it! I can't seem to find anything more detailed than "1978" for Kauk's first ascent.

(***) I recall thinking that Bachar was the only one that could climb it. That might even make sense since apparently he broke a key hold when working it, and for a while he was indeed the only person that could climb the now slightly harder problem!
