I’ve just returned from a motorcycle trip and caught up on missed emails about it.
PeterW and TimP are doing a pre-prep at Mt Alexander next weekend 7/8 Dec while I have another prior commitment that weekend, so am looking forward to catching up with them as soon as possible afterwards.

Didn't seem like anything was going on so just had a quick potter up OD with a mate the other week.

Care to give us a trip report?

Won't be doing a TR, I've put some details on thecrag.coms log (confusingly there have been two different daves up recently) and I've got a google doc somewhere if people want more pitch-by-pitch aid beta spray.

Something of a thread hijack. I'm going to be staying at Porepunkah the week 18-25 Jan. I've got partners for part of that time but looking for someone to climb with for a day or two from Wed 22- Fri 24.
Sorry, but I'm not interested in aiding and I'll only be leading moderate grades (less than gr20). Happy to belay and follow harder routes if someone wants a belay bunny.

Hi All,
Can I introduce myself as an old(er) climber in Sydney who is both interested and new to aid climbing.
If there is any idea for a training run in Aid climbing (and people from the Sydney COVID-19 hotspot are allowed back into Victoria) I would like to join in.
Just joined the Canberra Climbers Association on that promise that "there is good granite in the ACT" (unfortunately not allowed there either) so meeting up with them at Blue Lake in the Snowy Mts for a late January climb fest.

Nothing is planned at this stage, though back in pre-covid days and when interest was high, we managed two trips a year for that purpose, one in March and one in November, with a reasonable turnout for all of them over a period of a few years.
Who knows, people reading this thread may have the spark kindled and if demand is sufficient then we can organise another in due course?
Post edit: I’ll start another thread for the purpose soon due to March rapidly approaching (!), after I refresh where I’m at with PW and TP re our covid delayed Ozy plan.

Really hoping this can still go ahead! Although my upper body fitness has probably suffered a bit over the past year. I'm really hoping to get another warm up day with Tim, and then with you to tune up the "big(ish) wall" stuff.

Yes, looking forward to some extended time on the stone too.

What’s that?
Doesn’t matter, as aid largely overcomes such evil denigrations...
Heh, heh, heh.

More than that there is good clean-aid climbing to be had on parts of it too.
One in particular that comes to mind readily is Ruler Crack at Booroomba (Orroral area / Orroral Ridge / Tower Rocks*), and it has some worthy companion routes in close proximity nearby that collectively can easily keep you engaged for a day in that area.
* As found on The Crag website. Note, the ‘unfinished project’ nearby Ruler has been done at M7.

@Duang Daunk, @davedave, @M9; So far none of my solo attempts have been truly "solo". I attempted the first few pitches of Lord Gumtree last winter '19 and bailed onto Ozy at BG (awful grovel) after becoming saturated in the mud I had been scraping out with my nut tool just to find marginal RP placements... (Didn't have th eheart to downlcimvb and resume the suffer-fest right into the crux pitch!) But I bumped into Alec on Ozy original that occasion which really helped with motivation. Did I mention my ropes were soaked after rappelling down Defender of the waterfall... Anyway, my climbing has been on ice during an extended time overseas and coming home to a pandemic. I'd be glad to meet and learn with some other Aid climbers or maybe some social solo... Consider my interest strongly registered (hope my gardening duties on LG have not overgrown). Let's make it happen.

The key to a decrease in upper body fitness is to never have any to start with...
Yep up for aid warm-up at Mt Alex Peter

Given the uncertainties of even domestic travel at the moment (and the usual difficulty of planning anything at an often wet Mt Buffalo) I don't think it would be a go this year.
I'm trying to keep a contact list of interested persons to see if there would be a critical mass for an intro to bigwall/aid type weekend probably in the bluies probably by donation to SRC. PM an email address/experience base/learning goals if you want to be kept in the loop.
