Kim actually found more political friction than fame ...

What I don't get is this obsession ...
I was there, climbed with Kim (he was better than me - I was a just a kid, cragging with Jerry). He climbed in Britain with 'our' unsung hero Douggie Hall. FFA of Psychic Threshold on Great Orme - E5 6b. Both fell off Mayfair - E3 6a - so did Carrigan's Groove to get to the stance.
Wasn't there a headline in Crags magazine 'Bruce Bounces' having taken a monster off Midsummer's? I could be wrong, might've been Douggie. Redhead and I did the next two ascents. I think Kim made an impression in Avon too (check Crags ima).
We did a couple of routes at Le Sassois togther on an International meet mid eighties. I liked him, top bloke but dead intense ... Caught up years later at a Vietnamese restaurant on Victoria St - perhaps '91 or 2. Geez he was bitter.

OK...clearly John Ewbank and Kim Carrigan were the main men of grade pushing in Australian rock climbing...so why did Ewbank stop pushing grades ...and what did he think of Kim Carrigan...

'...By the early ‘seventies I became so disheartened by the bolting wars and the associated ethical arguments that I decided to abandon ship entirely and concentrate purely on music. Various climbers would come round the house and try to re-inject some of the magic, but I was an obstinate patient. Joe Friend was one. Mike Law was another. Michael actually managed to get me away on a few new routes. One day I went to watch Michael and Kim Carrigan bouldering and there was no question that I was seeing some hot stuff. ..'

WHAT I DONT GET IS THE FKG ANTI-CARRIGAN CRAP IN THIS FKG C#NTRY ...

'...Kim cops heaps of crap but by gees he put up some hard classics years ahead of the pack...'

( Will Monks @ thecrag.com )

>>>Geez he was bitter...

a Kim-centric view of the Carrigan Years is essential for Kim to ' have his say ' AND show case his excellent photos and writing skills....and is a must before we get what Claw hinted at in his book ...a history of Aus climbing ...thru the Claw-filter .....

There's no Anti-Carrigan crap from this keyboard ima ...
Question: Will Kim pop his head above the parapet and knuckle down to writing his book then?
Seems like you're doing a pretty forensic job of it on his behalf.

I wrote an article for Rock on the 1st of each grade, at what they were considered at the time of writing, not originally graded. Your list appears out on some routes. I don't have the issue with me.

I remember that story. Kim took a fall from high up and Dougie had to jump down the hill to save him.

Nah, it was mid 2000's. I bought the issue and remember the article well, because it is probably still the driest, most mind numbing thing I've ever seen printed in a climbing mag. I hadn't met Greg at that point, and was sitting there thinking "jesus, this guy must be the rain man of the frigging Wimmera". As it turns out, he's not like that at all. The article must have been a total brain snap, thinking that an anal retentive list made for good reading.
