Thanks guys! Yeah, a plan B sounds in order.

Latest update is an evacuation warning currently issued for Buffalo Ck and surrounding areas due fire activity increasing with erratic winds at the moment.!/warning/12594

The VicEmergency app also shows a burnt area from a spotfire located east of Lake Buffalo up towards the summit of Mt McLeod (overlooks Myrtleford and Porepunkah), at northern end of Mt Buffalo plateau. This no doubt originated from the convection cloud that formed over the main fire yesterday which spotted ahead of itself.

Recent rain has significantly dampened fire activity in the Mt Buffalo area.

VicTraffic website was last updated 3.40 pm 25/01/20 and listed the road up to The Chalet as closed, though I heard on local ABC Radio that it is likely to be opened on Tuesday 28 January...

The park is still listed as closed on Parks' site:

You are right ajf.
ABC Radio interviewed the Incident Controller for the (Buffalo area) Abbeyard fire, today, and he wasn’t hopeful of ParksVic opening the NP any time soon...

Thanks for that Mr P.
Much of it I had come across before, but there were some new gems of info that I was unaware of, within it.

Probably should have its own thread, but Booroomba Rocks, a climbing area in Namadgi NP on southern outskirts of Canberra got burnt out during the last few days...

Fire front was only 5 km from Tharwa before today’s terrible fire conditions exacerbated the out of control bushfire.

Partial opening:

Areas of Mount Buffalo National Park closed due to fire
Mount Buffalo National Park remains closed due to fire activity in the area, with the exception of the area between the entry gate and Rollason's Falls. Areas that are open include Eurobin Falls, Rollason's Falls, and The Big Walk (between the entry gate and the first road crossing). All other areas of Mount Buffalo National Park remain closed. Refer to the map (PDF) for more detail on areas that are open and those that remain closed. For the latest information on fires, visit

I'm not sure dragging a pig up a slab would be much fun! :-)

Mount Buffalo National Park Reopening up to Cathedral Saddle
Access into the park will be through to the Cathedral Saddle car park but all visitor facilities and most tracks north of there are open and accessible. There a few areas in the north that will have restricted access until we can undertake further assessments and rehabilitation works – please refer to the attached map. These areas are:
• Reservoir Road
• Rocky Creek Track
• Mt McLeod Track
• Macs Point Track from near the Leviathan
• Long Plain Track to Mt Dunn and surrounds

As far as I can see, the map posted 3/2 is still the most up to date regarding park access? My reading of the map is that the gorge is open?
